A month ago we put together an article that was essentially a re-posting of several other great articles about the effects of streaming on the working musician. It asked the question Has Music Become Too Cheap? At nearly 16 million streams for a single musician to make minimum wage, the answer is “yes”. Today we follow that up with another question citing another article, this time from Salon.com – are classical and jazz being hit the hardest? Though Proper Discord, another blog I enjoy reading, has a “bone to pick” with this logic, I agree with Mr. Timberg and side with the creators of classical and jazz, who sadly will likely not be able to create the music I love unless they find another way to generate income.
