Happy 80th Birthday Krzysztof Penderecki!
In celebration of Maestro Penderecki’s birthday, we have put together a chronological timeline of his musical output. Note: For copyright reasons the video has no audio, but we highly encourage you to create your own soundtrack. Though Penderecki is widely known for the shrieking tone clusters of “Threnody” – the likes of which were made popular in Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining,” Penderecki, one of the greatest of living composers, has as much an understanding of melody and counterpoint as he does orchestration and effect. We’ve added some suggested pairings for the timeline that you may not be familiar with via Spotify below, including Michael Linton’s ‘Arbores serit,’ written as a birthday gift to the maestro and released on Tuesday.
