Franz Schubert’s Birthday

Today marks the birthday of Austrian composer Franz Peter Schubert.  So much time is spent reading and writing about composers, when it would be better spent listening to their music. If you would like to read about Schubert and learn that he was born in Vienna, his friends basically supported him most of his life, he had typhoid fever and so on, I have collected some articles for you to read below. More importantly, I have put together a series of videos you should enjoy!

Jesse Norman performing “Der Erlkönig” (it’s my favorite!)

String Quartet, in D minor, D 810 “Der Tod und das Mädchen”

Winterreise with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Alfred Brendel

Refinersfire will be releasing of Schubert’s B-flat piano sonata, D.960, performed by Lynn Rice- See. To hear Mrs. Rice- See perform Michael Linton’s “Las Fuentes” please click here, and to listen to a recent live recording of Mrs. Rice-See performing Hayden’s Variations in F minor, click here.
