A Thing or Two About a Tune or Two: Worth a Listen

PARTON “If you talk bad about country music, it’s like saying bad things about my momma. Them’s fightin’ words” ~Dolly Parton

So you don’t like country music? I can respect that. But you cannot tell me that you don’t like Dolly Parton. With a career that spans six decades, her contributions to music, entertainment, and charity cannot be ignored. She is a powerhouse of talent, humor, and humility, and a national treasure. Plus, girlfriend can write a song! She has composed over 3,000 of them! Twenty-five of them reached #1 on the Billboard country charts. And did you know she received at least one nominations from the Academy Awards, Grammy Awards, Tony Awards, and Emmy Awards (you can find all of this info and more here)?

Perhaps my favorite Dolly story is that she once lost a Dolly Parton lookalike contest to a man. Here is a great place to learn some more fun Dolly data.

Her newest contribution to country music, Blue Smoke, was released last month and it’s well worth a listen. You should check it out and you should listen to this interview on NPR. Any time with Dolly is time well spent. And who knows, maybe you’ll find a tune or two you can tap your toes to.

Here’s one of my favorite Dolly toe tapping tunes, “Blue Smoke”.

And for a change of pace: “If I Had Wings”.
